| With the continuous enhancement of its overall national strength, China has attached much more importance to the development of sports with lots of money invested in this cultural undertaking. As a result, many sports fields witnessed excellent athletes emerge. A large number of them had their autobiographies published and issued, the content of which includes stories of their life, training and matches. Against this backdrop, it is necessary to study the translation of athlete’s autobiography.This Translation Report, with the third part "How Many Four Years Can Repeat: My Dream of Grand Slam Came True" from Until the End of World, the autobiography of Olympic champion Lin Dan as its research subject, makes an exploration of the translation of athlete’s autobiography. This excerpt is translated under the guidance of Skopos Theory, during which troubles troubled me in coping with proper nouns, synonyms and idioms and set phrases. To have a command of professional vocabulary and idiomatic English expressions, I read English news related to badminton matches from the official website of the BWF (Badminton World Federation) and watched major matches so as to better address translation issues. Free translation received top priority in tackling idioms and set phrases so that foreign readers can read the translation more easily.It is suggested that good preparations should be made by reading parallel texts, familiarizing with professional background and having a command of professional knowledge before translation. Only in this way can full preparations be made and idiomatic versions produced. |
