The oratorio originates from Europe with long history,becoming a brilliant pearl duringmillennium of medieval religious music culture. The word "Oratorio" is translated and spreadto China by Mr Huang Zi. The cantata "song of Everlasting Sorrow" which is an uniquenessgroup of chorus songs of Mr. Huang Zi becomes the first one in history of Chinese musicoratorio. Its birth not only plays an important role in the artistic achievements of Mr. HuangZi, but also becomes a symbol in modern history of Chinese music, especially theremarkablely representative chorus among them.Mr. Huang Zi, which is a famous composer, music theorist and music educator inmodern history of Chinese music, is a pioneer and founder in Chinese music. He devoted hislife to cultivate a large number of music professors and made outstanding contributions to theChinese music education, improving the level of professional music education in china. Hisproductions of vocal music and instrumental music or theorical publications had thecharacteristics of folk style, leading his compositions to possess the nationalisticfeature."Song of Everlasting Sorrow" as the first oratorio in Chinese history, was composedby composer Mr. Huang Zi and the songwriter Mr. Wei Hanzhang, which was based on thesame name with poem of Bai Juyi and the legend "the palace of eternal youth" of HongSheng.This oratorio is divided into ten movements. The headline of each movement comesfrom Bai Juyi’s original title poem. Although Mr Huang Zi composed in seven movementswhile the fourth, seventh, and ninth movements was not complete, its main ideas andthemes manifested incisive and vivid in this composition. This composition ended uptragically with the feudalism woman which centred on the development of historical events,shaping successully four characters of Tang Minghuang, Yang Guifei, the maid, the army.It adopted the form of the four part mixed choir, male four, female three chorus chorus,soprano, and baritone solo. Mr. Huang Zi’s bold attempt and his skilled composingtechniques made the performance of emotion more delicate and richness. It was not only ahigh artistic works, but also made a contribution and had far-reaching influence on theChinese chorus enterprise.Through the method of literature review, illustration, analysis, and comparative,combined with the historical background of Mr. Huang Zi, this paper explains the musiccreation ideal of the chorus composition in the oratorio "song of Everlasting Sorrow" andanalyzes artistic features of music theme,image the melody,rhythm,harmony,tonality, and melody, etc. to discuss the artistic value and historical status and influence of the choruscomposition in the oratorio "song of Everlasting Sorrow".
