According to UNESCO, the “Intangible cultural heritage”means“the practices,representations, expressions, knowledge, skills–as well as the instruments, objects,artifacts and cultural spaces associated therewith–that communities, groups and, insome cases, individuals recognize as part of their cultural heritage”(UCESCO,2003).They are the productions of long-time inaction of nature and human in theparticular environment-politics, natural, humanities as well as historical. Thesignificant meaning and value of them make it important for the protection andheritage.But now the development of global economy and modern science are covering upthese traditional ones. And without them, our life gets boring, our cities becomemonotonous as well as our mind.Fornow, the world begins to realize the importance ofintangible cultural heritage.The Wang-Kui Shadow, the object of this study, is one of those intangible culturalheritages, in performing art category.The thesis will cover three mainly parts:1. The study in the protection of intangible cultural heritage, especially for theperforming art ones.2. The basal study of Wang-Kui Shadow. This part will introduce thedevelopment origins, the characteristics, the value and the heritage tree as wellas status of the Wang-Kui Shadow.3. The targeted protection framework.This part is the application of protectiontheory to the Wang-Kui Shadow, which comes up with the targeted protectionframework.
