This translation report is based on the source text(Chapter Six), an excerpt from Educational Psychology, which mainly introduces thestages of personal growth and one’s physical and psychological changes at each stage.It consists of four parts, namely the description of the translation task, the translationprocess, the analysis of difficulties in the translation and the conclusion drawn fromthe translation task. During the preparation, the author gained a deep understanding ofthe stylistic, lexical, syntactic and cultural characteristics of the source text throughcareful reading and decided to adopt both literal translation and free translation as thetranslation strategies. The author also consulted some parallel texts related to thesource text and prepared various auxiliary tools for the translation task. Whenrevising the first draft, the author solved difficulties in terms of vocabulary, syntax,and discourse and perfected the target text by discussing it with some classmates. Theanalysis of difficulties in the translation matters the most. The author’s thinkingprocess and the applications of various translation skills are presented in detail bymeans of solving the lexical, syntactic, and discourse difficulties. In the final part, theauthor concludes that when doing translation, the author should have a deeperunderstanding of the differences between the English language and the Chineselanguage and take the reader’s respondence, the discourse and context intoconsideration. At the end of the final part, the author, based on personal experiences,offers some advice for MTI teaching. |
