In the second half of18century, with the decline of oil painting in the Palace ofQing-dynasty, a new kind of painting called export painting comes into beinginGuangzhou, a city located in South China. After more than half a century, exportpainting achieved its climax under the influence of the new-coming English painterGeorge Chinnery. This paper aims to learn more about Chinnery, export painting andsocial conditions of that time through discussing the source of Chinnery’s style ofpainting, his artworks and the influence of the new style he brought to China. |
