| Odilon Redon is one of the leading representatives of the Symbolism School, who has a powerful influence on the artistic trend of thought in 19th century. Redon was born in the turbulent era of 19th century. Undergoing the loneliness in childhood, France-Prussian War and the losing of a child, he suppresses his immense grief in the deep of the heart. Instead, he is free to vent his blue mood with his black brush. In this paper, I make a brief introduction of Redon’s life. According to the analysis of the research of the Predecessors’, I redefine and redraw his black period and color period. In addition, I roughly analyze his Symbolism Painting Style and Painting Icons. I excavate the philosophic thought by analyzing the painting icons in his black period’s works and summarize his painting thought, paraphrase dream world and subconsciousness and analyze the influence of his fantasy on the subsequent schools and artists.In this paper, I make a systematic study in Redon’s charcoal and print works in the point of the Symbolism in his creation. By analyzing the black period’s painting icons, painting language feature and source of his creative idea in his black period, I explore the psychological profound connotation in his work and thus evoked the reflechon of human nature.There are four chapters in the paper:Chapter one is focus on Redon’s creation background and the definition of Symbolism. Besides, I redefine his black period and color period. In chapter two, I expound Redon’s painting icon and painting language features, especial his painting language. In chapter three, I expound the painting ideas in his works which is influenced by Western philosophical thoughts. In chapter four, I analyze the influences on the society by Redon’s paintings.Starting from the social situation, my topic, combining with historical literatures and painting of the chart describes, analyzes and evaluates Redon’s writing background, painting style, painting ideas and the impact on the future generations. |
