The couples tomb is an important form in ancient times, it developed chronically pre-Qin period and got popular in Han-dynasty, it’s the connecting link time of couples tomb, before that they were bury in different tombs, after that they in the same one. Based on that my essay takes the couples tomb in Central Plains as research object, according to the previous articles I analyze many fundamental information about couples tomb from the point of Archaeological Typology, and find out the discipline of the development and evolution of multi-burial, build up a archaeological frame on it in this area.Couples tomb was divided into the same grave burial couples buried in the same grave and the separate graves burial couples buried in different graves based on the forms of burial. It’s an interim period of the two forms of couples tomb In Han-Dynasty, however the trend was the separate graves burial replacing the same grave burial.According to the analysis of some classic tomb form, it can be seen that the couples tomb developed periodically. The couples tomb in Central Plains inherited the multi-burial customs Pre-Qin period, in early Western Han Dynasty the separate grave burial were mainstream taken by various ranks people, later the same grave burial became popular and finally it got its peak in late West Han Dynasty, but upper class burial continued in the same old rut of separate graves burial. Between the two periods there were many flexible forms such as two linked graves burial and upper level two graves in same tomb burial etc. As the family tomb arised from Xinmang Regime to late Eastern Han Dynasty the same grave couples tomb finally became main trend. This research reviewed the multi-burial occasionally appeared in the Neolithic Age, the couples tomb in two graves standardized in Shang and Zhou Dynasties, and couples tomb in the same grave prevailed in Han Dynasty. It analyzed the reasons couples tomb prevail in Han Dynasty, and demonstrated the burial custom is influenced by politic, economy, and culture at that time deeply.
