| Chinese hero biographical films which were born in1950s present a increasinglystrong momentum of creation in recent years. The development of Chinese herobiographical films is closely related to directors who have been exploring andinnovating. On one hand the capacity and aesthetic appreciation ability of directorsinfluence the present and future of Chinese hero biographical films, on the other handdirectors is in charge of artistry and marketability of film and take up social andculture responsibilities. Therefore study on directors is very important to figure outrules of creation and guide developing directions of Chinese hero biographical films.By taking directors as subjected investigated, this paper systematically researchon director creation style of Chinese hero biographical films. Firstly this paperclassifies the development periods of creation, which can be divided to three partscalled the beginning period, formative period and explorative period. Secondly thispaper concludes the following general characteristics of director creation: combiningreality and fiction in dealing with subject matters, sculpturing ethical characters,generating sadness narrative strategies and applying documentary images. Thirdly,taking several typical directors as examples, the paper analyses their personalities suchas virility, sentimentality and floridness that enrich the creation style of herobiographical films. Lastly, the paper points out the bottleneck of director creation, forinstance, they pay much attention to education function and authenticity so that ignoreamusement function and artistic qualities, at the same time, directors emphasis onpraising heroes so that weaken the ideological and emotional power. In addition, thepaper suggests improving proposals such as valuing artistry, commerciality andrecreation of films highly, widening directors’ field of vision and breaking inherentmodes, moreover directors could learn some good creative methods from overseasbiographical films. |
