Advertising is the inevitable product of purposeful information exchange activities by human beings."Advertising" originates from Latin "advertere". At the end of19th century, as a mode of commodity sales promotion, its characteristic mainly focuses on customer persuasion. At the same time, the emergence of automobile also enriches the advertising. Apart from the mass production promoted by advanced technology, the publicity effects of advertising make the automobile widely known as well. To some extent, advertising contributes to the popularization of automobiles.Along with our country’s opening up policy and joining into World Trade Organization (WTO), many auto brands in the world enter into Chinese market to grab chances. Automobile advertising plays an important role in this competition naturally. Therefore, exploring language characteristics and translation of auto advertising can broaden our horizon and understand its knowledge, at the same time can also bring referential significance for domestic auto advertising translation.This thesis falls into two parts:Part One mainly analyzes the linguistic features of auto advertising from lexical, rhetorical devices and sentences level; Part Two explores the translation theories, translation strategies and translation principles and also compares the similarities and differences between Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong proceeding automobile translation. We get the conclusion:In the process of auto translation, translating shall pick up corresponding strategies under the guidance of translation principles in order to achieve the purpose of auto makers.
