In Russia,the Jews is an important minority.Russia became a country with the largest jewish population in the end of18th century.The anti-Jewish riots, or pogroms,which broke out in the Russian Empire in the1880s,are seen as a decisive moment in modern Jewish history.Those disorders spread from the pogrom epicenter, which is always a major city, to the surrounding countryside.This was characterized as ’waves’ and there were3in the southwest of Russia,8provinces and more than200cities and towns were involved.Jews were attacked, their property looted or destroyed by the mob.Various factors caused the anti-Jewish riots.The Jews began to feel an urgent need to find a way out of the troubles plaguing their people,and those way influenced the world ultimately.The thesis is composed of four parts:In part Ⅰ, it looks back to the origin and the evolution of social status of Russian Jews.They originated from Khazar Jews and. Ashkenazim. From11th to19th century, the social status of Russian Jews had experienced4periods: the relative freedom period, the expulsion period, the limitation and assimilation period as well as the great improvement period.In part Ⅱ, it mainly discusses the reasons of pogroms.Religious conflicts between the Orthodox and the Judaism are bases of Russian hostile to the Jews.In the reign of Alexander Ⅱ,the improvement on the social statues of the Russian Jews is the root cause.In the half of the19th century, the development of nationalism and the dissemination of racist have the anti-Jewish drive high. The assassination of Alexander Ⅱ is the direct cause.In part Ⅲ, it focuses on the3waves of pogroms.The anti-Jewish movement was self-organized by the masses.The government,the Holy Brotherhood and the socialist did not plan to launch the anti-Jewish movement.Participants were mainly low-income class and industrial workers in Russia’s southwestern region.At home and abroad,there were different attitudes to pogroms.In part IV, it mainly discusses the influence of pogroms. The anti-Jewish violence focused the Russian jews on finding a new way.First,Jews embarked on the Zionism road to establish their nation in Palestine. Second,Russian Jews emigrated to other countries.Most of them go to United States,they laid the foundation for a prosperous and numerous American Jewish community.Third,Jews participate in the Russian socialist revolution,fighting for the equal rights of the Jewa.、...
