The book Theodore Roosevelt in the Badlands: A Young Politician’s Quest forRecovery in the American West, written by Roger L. Disilvestro, an American writer,is mainly about American President Theodore Roosevelt’s life experience and storieshappened in Badlands, a barren place stretched across the South Dakota and Nebraskaof America. The translator selects the first five chapters of this book to translate andwrite a related translation report based on the translation work and its process. Thereport consists of five parts. The first part is a brief introduction to this translationproject, including the reason why the translator choose this book to translate and thestructure of this report. The second part focuses on the analysis of the original text.The third part, the major part of this report, is about the translation difficulties that thetranslator came across during the translation and the major translation skills applied,including how to properly translate some specific words, conversion, negation,amplification as well as the skills used when translate some long and difficult Englishsentences, such as reinventing sentence structures, linear translation and reversetranslation. The forth part talks about some that the translator has learned form thistranslation. In the end, the translator conducts a conclusion. Hopefully, this translationand its report can generate some good help for the translation of biographical text.
