Among the character images of Chinese contemporary literature, theheroic images occupy the important position. A large number of heroic images havebeen shaped in Seventeen years literature and Cultural Revolution literature, butunder the intervention of political ideology, most of them appear monotonous andboring, they just be taken as the symbol and tool of the political ideology, so theylost the vitality. With the arrival of a new period and the transformation of the socialcontext, the heroic images in literature begin to show some degree of breakthrough.In this article, the analysis of the notion “hero” is the basic point,and giveinterpretation to the heroic images in the late20thcentury (from the1980s to1990s).This paper divided into two parts, the fist one is mainly discuss the heroic images in1980s, they have already break the model of “Gao Daquan”, the faces of hero beginto show diversity and complex. The second part mainly analysis the heroic images in1990s when the Mass culture is dominating gradually in the consumption context. Onthe one hand, consumption leads to the heroic images contain more entertainmentelements, on the other hand, with the emergence of the underclass hero, the herospectrum of Chinese contemporary literature has been more abundant. The main viewof this essay is that “hero” is just a result of the artificial construction and a niceimagination of the human’s body. In the process of the imagination, the rich andcomplex social、 historical、cultural information have been infiltrated in.
