Gaoshan Opera in Wudu Region, with the origin of Wudu RegionLongnan City Gansu Province, is also named Story-performance or Acts-walking. It isone typical type of folk opera in this region and was enrolled in the2008NationalIntangible Culture Heritage Protection Catalogue. It was formed in the turning periodof Yuan and Ming Dynasties. Influenced by local folk culture such as Sigong Danceand Dashen Dance, it presents several features such as complicated actors’s structure,explicited division, and various performing pattern. Its words are abundant and easy toremember, its melody is diverse, its music for voices absorbs both the Northern and theSouthern essence, and its spoken parts and vocal accompaniment are humourous.Despite a folk playlet, Gaoshan Opera contains rich Aesthetic meaning. Its simple andunadorned aesthetic form with aesthetic folk and aesthetic comprehensiveness is rootedin the nutritious Wudu Region culture soil. In the general constitution, Gaoshan Operainherited the Chinese opera aesthetic idea of giving shape before creation,and deliversa profound aesthetic conception by technique of false and true complement, artful andclumsy nature. This aesthetic conception, reflected in image, is more like a higher soulexperience and a more satisfied aesthetic characters. The thoughts of Harmony,Humanity and Farming-overwhelming in Confucianism also influence the GaoshanOpera profoundly and widely.
