"Contemporary folk chamber music" has gradually became a sub-category of Chinese folk chamber music since around1980s. This type of musical genre was rather new yet developing overtime. During the creation in this genre, composers use a random combination of two or more folk musical instruments to create a new type of musical works via exploration in the form of "oriental and western mixture", Owing to the autonomy nature of using the instruments in this genre, in the recent years, this genre has been more and more appreciated by professional composers, therefore they composed a great number of works.This thesis is intended to analyze and study the underlying characteristics and the humanistic meanings embedded in the "contemporary folk chamber music". This thesis will also focus on the studies of specific works in a fashion of choosing six new folk chamber music (《zhu zhi ci》、《shui xiang Ⅱ》、《The sunset light》、《Swans flying afar》、《Land·Cloud shadows》、《zhi》) from five professional composers (Guo wenjing、Zhu shirui、Ye guohui、Qin wenchen、Xu jianqiang) who are active in the realm of music in China. While doing the study of the literature of the works, some level of prolongations on traditional backgrounds deemed necessary. Meanwhile, it is essential to meditate the bearing meanings of China’s "contemporary folk chamber music" as a genre.This thesis has a series of specific train of thoughts:The first chapter focuses on the discussion of the so called "contemporary folk chamber music" as well as the sorting of some theoretical findings from certain works. The second chapter focuses on the prolongations of the analysis. The third chapter explains the idea of "academic composer group" phenomenon from "contemporary folk chamber music", which introduced how these composers interpret the words "tradition" and "contemporary". In the last part of the thesis, it will focus on the relative studies and the questions raised due to the fact that this is still a fundamental study in the field.
