As a social psychology phenomenon, linguistic intergroup bias was firstproposed by Anne Maass et al. Linguistic intergroup bias is a systematic biaswhen people describe the others, behaviors by language, mainly for thisphenomenon: people encode and communicate desirable in-group andundesirable out-group behaviors using a higher level of abstraction words, then people encode and communicate undesirable in-group and desirableout-group behaviors using a lower level of abstraction words.Current research on linguistic intergroup bias is based on Semin andFiedler’ linguistic category model, the model will describe the samebehavioral episode at four different levels of abstraction from low to high:descriptive action verbs、interpretive actions verbs、state verbs and adjectives, and that these four words are in particular-on the abstract dimension ofcontinuous distribution. Current research on this phenomenon include: AnneMaass et al in Italians, Yoshiko Tanabe et al in the Japan and Du Wei al inthe Chinese language, their studies all used the same paradigm. Linguisticintergroup bias is a common phenomenon or it has the particularity oflanguage, the problem of the differences among diversity languages needsfurther study. Mongolian has typical differences with other languages inlanguage system and etymology, then whether there is this phenomenon inMongolian and the characteristics of this phenomenon need further study. The study was conducted in the Mongolian context, examining whetherthere is linguistic intergroup bias in Mongolian. In the experiments, we selectMongolian individuals as research subjects, we were carried out behavioralexperiments and eye movement experiments.Behavioral experimental, sresults show that the subjects more choose a higher level of abstractiondescriptions for positive behavior of their friends and negative behavior oftheir hates, and the subjects more choose a lower level of abstraction descriptions for the negative behavior of their friends and positive behavior oftheir hates. Eye movement experiment,s results show that there are morefixation points and longer gaze times in the higher level of abstractiondescriptions for positive behavior of their friends and negative behavior oftheir hates, less fixation points and gaze times in the lower level of abstraction;there are more fixation point and longer gaze time in the lower level ofabstraction descriptions for negative behavior of their friends and positivebehavior of their hates, less fixation points and gaze times in the higher levelof abstraction.Behavioral experiments and eye movement experiments all show there islinguistic intergroup bias in Mongolian, its characteristics have in commonwith the study of existing language. Linguistic intergroup bias is generalphenomenon.
