The translated material is the first scene of the novel-Goblin Secrets, written by an American writer William Joseph Alexander. The novel won2012Annual National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, which tells a story of an orphan entering a magical town called Zombay in search of his brother. The genre of the novel is children’s fantasy, a branch of children’s literature. Various definitions of children’s literature remain in the current academic circle. But from the point of quality, target readers, content and form, children’s literature is the general term for all kinds of high-quality literary works (including prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction and so on) that are created especially for children, suitable for their reading and have an effect on the child-readers. Children here are meant to refer to those from birth to adolescence. After reading the novel and several relevant theories, the author of the reporter translates and revises the material under the guidance of Reception Theory and describes some translating methods applied in this translation practice.This report concludes four chapters:task description, translation preparation, case.study and conclusion. Task description is the brief introduction to the novel-Goblin Secrets and its author. Translation preparation concludes the analysis of source text, parallel texts learning and adoption of Reception Theory. Based on Reception Theory, the case study describes several translating methods from the phonological, lexical, rhetorical and syntactical level. Last but not least, the author of the report summarizes some experiences and thoughts from this translation practice.
