Children’s literature is an important branch of literature, which is an indispensable part in the whole literature field. More and more scholars notice it and devote to the creation and study of children’s literature. To develop Chinese children’s literature career, it is necessary to learn from excellent foreign children’s literary works. But how to successfully translate them out according to Chinese language features and Chinese children’s way of reception is a question. This thesis attempts to explore Ren Rongrong’s(a well-known Chinese children’s literature creator and translator) children’s literature translation.In the late 1960 s, Jauss and Iser created reception theory on the basis of hermeneutics. Unlike the traditional “auther-centered theory” and “text-centered theory”, reception theory emphasizes the role and status of readers, it is “reader-centered theory”. In this thesis, the author first introduces the origin and development of reception theory, expounds the three most important concepts: horizon of expectation, indeterminacy and reader’s role. Then, the author summarizes reception theory’s guidance to children’s literature translation. And on that basis, the author analyzes the features of Ren Rongrong’s translation from lexical, syntactic and rhetoric level, summarizes Ren’s translation principles and confirms Ren’s child-orientation and its reference for future study.From this study, the author makes this conclusion: translators should engrave the thought of child-orientation in their mind deeply.
