Lincoln’s Wrath, a nonfiction novel published by Sourcebooks, is a kind ofdocumentary literature which describes facts in the form of novel and in an artisticway. The book tells a story about, with abundant quotation and complex grammaticalmetaphors, the wrangle in terms of free press between President Lincoln and the thennewspapers at civil war time. Therefore, in the process of translating, objectivity,facticity and accuracy must be assured as well as complete transformation of sourcetext‘s semantic meaning and connotation.In this translation report, the author analyzes the transitivity and semanticfunctional components of some sentences. Besides, in the light of semanticexpressions, communicative intentions, purposes and aesthetic effects, chooses theright and suitable ones, congruent form or metaphorical form, from many syntacticstructures in target language to render the meaning of the original text.Based on translation of Lincoln‘s Wrath (excerpt), this report is going to exploreand discuss the role ideational grammatical metaphor plays in the analysis of sentencestructure, semantic of the original text and production of translation text. Itseffectiveness can be proved and it is hoped that this report may set a good e xample forsubsequent relevant translation.
