Wuxi bamboo bark carving craft persists a long historic evolution, performing theunique oriental attraction of Wu culture, preserving the elegant favor of Silk-BambooCulture of south China, presenting the traditional wisdom of China nationality andpromoting the enriched literal appreciation with rare artistic features. Wuxi bamboobark carving is officially enlisted as "The Extended Project to the First List of NationalIntangible Cultural Heritage of China" in June7,2008.The artistic features and inheritance of Wuxi bamboo bark carving is studied indepth with a broaden view. Firstly, the fine definition and origin traits are provided,with the general carving process being carefully summarized, such as sketching,scratching, peeling and polishing; secondly, the artistic features are closed coveredwith analytical research from multiple perspectives including aesthetics, anthropologyand folklore art, regarding the aspects of pictorial composition, artistic style,streamline coloring and underline decoration, knife engraving and the profoundcultural background, the distinctive decent lingering charm of Wuxi bamboo barkcarving is fully disclosed through cross examination of the inter-relationship ofadjoining schools of art as cutting, calligraphy, poetry and painting; thirdly, the SWOTanalysis was done to deal with the dilemma of development and heritage of Wuxibamboo bark carving, comparatively screen-scanning the strengths, weakness,opportunities and threats facing the subject under study; finally, the overall concretedevelopment of Wuxi bamboo bark carving is suggested, emphasizing the designinnovation as the critical su ccessful factor in the heritage prospective. |
