In the formalism art criticism of Roger Fry, discussing non European art is to occupy acertain position. Mr.Fry can broaden our horizons from European art to Chinese art,Japanese art, Africa black art and other non European art in visual form as thelink,trying to break through the obstacles of the idea of the European center dominatingworld, and the intending to compile the world art history as the earliest attempts. Hespent a lot of energy and time on researching African Art and East Art as well asAmerican Art in the latter time of academic career, and tried to draw a conclusion thatthe psychological background can determine the formal creation from these nonrepresentational art. In other words, the creation of a variety of the formal feelings isrooted in the national aesthetic psychological construction. The aesthetic emotion ofcreation of form depends on the process of generation and development of the socialpsychological background.Mr.Fry considers creation of form on the basis of the givenhistorical condition and psychological background and exploration of national spirit,giving the realistic foundation or origin to form. Compared with not by historicalconditions and national characteristics of the time as the point of departure,this can begreat progress. He adopts the same attitude to take art of all nations into account in thelevel of same value, which also reflects his wise brain and world vision and broad heartof the equal acceptance as well as fair treatment of each national art in the world.
