1950s, Japan’s "Sodeisha Group" and the United States "Otis" were together known as the world’s main innovations of modern ceramics, which were marked the rise of modern ceramics in the true sense. Kazuo Yagi, who was the founder of Sodeisha Group, was the key figure who made Japanese artifacts of pottery change from the traditional to avant-garde ceramic non-functional. He also was a pioneer in the world of avant-garde ceramics. Under the influence of Kazuo Yagi, Japanese contemporary ceramics had a rapid growth and got a high reputation in the world. Through the research of Kazuo Yagi’s concept formation process and analyze his work styles, we can know more about Kazuo Yagi was how to opening up a new field and directions of modern ceramic art from an old ceramic concept of the world.This thesis is divided into five parts:The first part is a brief overview about the significance of the research, the purpose, methods and status. The second part divides Kazuo Yagi’s modern ceramic art concept into three periods to study and investigate and run through the big background into it. The third part is the work of Kazuo Yagi’s style and its causes, analysis Western contemporary art and Japanese, Korean art concept how to impact of Kazuo Yagi and embodied in his works. The fourth part analyzes Kazuo Yagi’s works, from the selection of materials and its characteristics, combined with type, color and decorative. The fifth part is a summary overview about the contribution of Kazuo Yagi. Finally, there is a simple summary discussion of the author’s thesis presence and lack of inspiration and ways to continue to study the research in the future.
