The second erhu concerto pursuing a dream in Beijing is a famous erhuconcerto created in2002by composer,Guan Naizhong, which depicts four seasons ofold Beijing in composer’s memories. Each Movement is endowed with vivid image ofthe music:noise of spring, serenity of summer, fields of golden crops in autumn anda warm Chinese New Year’s eve in a cold winter. These four movements arerespectively labeled as Lively spring, Serene summer night, Golden autumn andChinese New Year’s eve. The composer applies diverse musical elements into eachmovement, which involve drums in Beijing’s charm, Pihuang tone in Peking Operaand monochord, making the musical image of Beijing more prominent. The music notonly sounds modren and fashionable,but is also full of Chinese flavor with anintegration of traditional music elements and western composing techniques.As a tradional and national musical instrument, erhu is gentle, beautiful andmellow. In addtion, it intimates other instrument’ s tone well, and develops arelatively high level of technique. In musical composition, Guan Naizhong is good atmixing the timbre and techniques of erhu together.What’s more, he is able to vividlyconvey Beijing’s flavor and charm through his music, which lively presents the oldvista of Beijing city. He visualizes the music and clearly conveys verve of the melodythrough some common erhu techniques like vibrato and glide. His smooth andgraceful music depicts a beautiful scenery, not narrates a story, brings us theenjoyment on the auditory.The auther,from the perspective of a player, will explore the style andcharacteristics of this work on its creation and performance, through understandingthe work and analyze its used techniques and emotion processing methods in playing.
