A Translation Report Of A Cultural Perspective On High Tang Literature

This translation report is based on the author’s translation practice of "Shaanxi Normal University Translation Project on Excellent Academic Works of Philosophy and Social Sciences". Under the guidance of her supervisor, the author translated the third and fourth chapters of A Cultural Perspective on High Tang Literature.In combination with translation theory of Nord and translation practice of author, this report mainly studies translation strategies of ancient Chinese official titles and poetic titles. By describing translation processes and analyzing translation cases, the author hopes the report as well as the translation of A Cultural Perspective on High Tang Literature can give some enlightenment to those who translate such kind of texts.This report totally consists of five parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the background information and significance of this translation project. The second part describes preparatory works during the pre-translation process, translation process and post-translation process. The third part studies German functionalist translation theory, especially Nord’s looping model for the translation process introduced in her works Text Analysis in Translation:a Model for Translation-Oriented Text Analysis and documentary and instrumental translation strategies written in Translating as a Purposeful Activity-Functionalist Approaches Explained. The fourth part is case analysis. Connected with specific examples, the author studies different kinds of translation strategies and applies them into the translation of ancient Chinese official titles and poetic titles. The last part summarizes experience and lessons the author has learned during this translation practice and states issues which still remain to be addressed.
