The particular significance of motivation and success books lies in the fact thatthey not only convey to people optimistic, positive beliefs and faith but also addpowerful force to our mind, which has vital significance for the people of this era.There are numerous motivational books, most of which are introduced from abroad,such as the series of Chicken Soup. As they have just appeared for a relatively shorttime, the translation study on this type is limited. These books have exerted a greatinfluence on people’s daily lives, so the study has extremely important realistic andpractical meanings.According to Karl Buhler’s theories of linguistic function, Peter Newmark, inhis Approaches to Translation (1981), puts forward three text types: the form-focused text, the content-focused text, and the appeal-focused text. From the functionof language, motivational books have these functions. Different translation strategiesshould be applied to different text types, such as semantic translation andcommunicative translation. From the aspects of culture and language, communicativetranslation is the best way.This thesis consists of seven parts. The first part is an introduction to the projectbackground, research purpose and research significance. Part2serves as the taskdescription. Part3and Part4, the core content of the report, express the influence oflanguage features on the translation practice. Then we will have Part5and Part6thatsummarize the difficulties and problems which arose during the whole process oftranslating. The last part serves as the conclusion.This project has chosen100stories, nearly25,000words. During the translationprocess, I combine the functionalist skopos theory with the text type theory of PeterNewmark to analysis the project, and find some information from the website CNKI.On the premise of considering transmitting cultural information, from the visualangle of the reader and the translator to analyze the motivational books, moreattention should be paid to the differences between English and Chinese expressions,which apply some translation techniques to My Daily Stories, and solve someproblems during the translation process.
