In recent years,tremendous achievements have been made in Chinese international education and an increasing number of MTCSOL student teachers have been serving as faculty or staff in international Chinese education due to the heat promotion of learning Chinese.The study of their professional qualities is a relatively new academic of international Chinese education discipline.However,there have been limited studies in this area so far.With the purpose of getting an overall knowledge of the current professional qualities of MTCSOL student teachers,the author conducted a survey.In the survey,26 universities were selected from the 110 universities with MTCSOL programs approved by the academic degrees committee under the State Council with the methods of stratified sampling and random sampling on the basis of four principles.The author investigated the professional qualities of MTCSOL student teachers from the 26 universities in the following five aspects consisted of professional qualities: professional basic knowledge,professional basic skills,professional consciousness and physical,psychological status,professional development ability,and professional moral emotions.Meanwhile,the author also invited the questionnaire-takers to give a self-evaluation on whether he or she is suitable to get engaged in international Chinese education and which level his or her suitability lies in.From the analysis of the effective data collected,the author finds that the current professional qualities of MTCSOL student teachers are relatively weak and not so satisfactory,among whom quite a few are not qualified in professional qualities compared with the latest revised standards or requirements of international Chinese language teachers issued by Hanban/Confucius institute headquarters in 2015.In order to reduce the negative influence on international Chinese education,especially on the teaching staff from MTCSOL student teachers owning weak or even poor professional qualities,the author provides corresponding suggestions for three related parties: MTCSOL student teachers,supervisors of MTCSOL programs,universities with MTCSOL programs.The author holds the view that only through multilateral joint force and active cooperation of the parties related can the professional qualities of MTCSOL student teachers get improved,and can the construction ofinternational Chinese teaching staff get increasingly normative and scientific so that the international Chinese education discipline and its projects can develop in a healthy and positive way.
