Social Education Functions And Value Orientation Of The Films And TV Series

The definition of the films and TV series has two forms, the narrow scene and the broad scene. The narrow scene of films and TV series, which is the joint name of the films and TV series, is studied in this paper.The films and TV series have the functions of education to the people and the whole society, which is known as the social education functions of the films and TV series, these functions are active,connotative、extensive、artistical and circumscribed in a general way. Senior scholars have different ideas about the time division of the films and the TV series as their different appearance time and development ways. Even though,two points in time, the Reform and opening up and coming into the21st century, are widely accepted. Therefore the development of the films and TV series can be divided into three periods:the initial period, the evolution period and the flourishing period. The films and TV series have different level of social education functions in different period.The initial period is from the founding of new China to the beginning of the Reform and opening up. As the sensitive political environment and unsubstantial material base, The films and TV series in this period mainly exist as propaganda tools and give priority to with red theme which mainly shows the hardship during the anti-Japanese war and the enthusiasm in the New China’s construction period with strong political and educational. Its social education functions are play a role in a"force-feeding"way. The evolution period is from the Reform and opening up to the1990s in last century. The films and TV series in this period mainly show the people’s great changes in life and consciousness brought from the Reform and opening up. With the running of market economy in China and the supporting to the development of the films and TV series from the national policy, the creations of the films and TV series are not only as propaganda tools but trying to pay attention to the demand of the art and entertainment. New forms of entertainment change the way of the social education functions of the films and TV series from the "force-feeding" to "osmosis", and play a role as well. The Chinese films and TV series steps into the flourishing period at the beginning of21st century. Driving by the economic benefit, the films and the TV series targets to the entertainment, and its social education functions are becoming ignored, which brings so many negative impacts.We can easily conclude that the impacts of the social education functions of the Chinese films and TV series are becoming weak from checking it in different periods. Two of the many subjective and objective reasons of the weakening of the social education functions of the Chinese films and TV series are the driving by economic benefit and the people’s entertainment-orientaled consumption, The weakening of the Chinese films and TV series social education functions means the lost of the educational significance of the films and TV series, even brings some examples of junk culture which mislead peoples’consciousness and behavior and the appearance of the series of social problems such as money worship、hedonism、social desenpathy and moral decline. The negative impacting brought from the weakening of the Chinese films and TV series social education functions is one of the most important reasons among all the reasons leading to the social problems.In consideration of the current situation of the Chinese films and TV series and the social impact result from the weakening of its social education functions, only rectifying its value orientation can we witness the further developing of the Chinese films and TV series. First of all, make the interest orientation and evaluation standard to education-orientated; second, promote the social theme and the socialist core values, focus on carrying forward the national spirit and the spirit of the age; besides, promote social morality and family virtue, the construction of socialist spiritual civilization; finally, with ensuring value orientation, pay attention to artistic creation so as to achieve the unity of the films and TV series’education value and artistic value. Only the correct value guidance and education to the films and TV series creation can we restructure the Social education functions of the films and TV series.
