This paper summarizes the status of British army medical reform after theCrimean War, and mainly discusses not only a series of problems which the Britisharmy faced during the war, but also the process and influence of the reform. CrimeanWar exposed the problems of the British Army. The British Army attended the warwithout medical team. At that time, there were some severe problems, for example,soldiers’ low status, lack of logistical support, unreasonable military organizations,confusion and other medical issues, coupled with bad weather, epidemics. The Britishcombat was severely weakened. War correspondents reported for the first time to letpeople know of the life of soldiers in the war. It caused an uproar and led to thedownfall of the government of Aberdeen. British casualties and domestic publicpressure made the authorities surprise, so the British government sent survey missionssuccessively, the reason for the Crimean War casualty investigations were carried outand submitted to Parliament.Herbert Sidney and Florence Nightingale initiated thereform on behalf of the British authorities by improving the wages,the implementationof the military care means; military medical legislation. It establishes the British armymedical model.This medical reform took place under the macro social reformmovement in Victorian period.It is a symbol that the British army medical systemadapts to modernization.
