The Ironic Study Of SongCi

Irony, which originated from western literature, is such a concept that is endowed withage stamp and substance continually. It gradually changed from philosophy sense to languagemeaning and became a kind of linguistic rhetoric more attached to the context than obscurephilosophy idea of infinite negation. Now irony is considered a common literaturemanifestation.The introduction summarizes the widely uses of irony in fiction, poem and Ci, and theirony had been applied in literature texts massively as a regular manifestation of literature.The first chapter presents the historic change and definition of irony, Chinese theory of irony,the aesthetic features, and the classification and constructing aspects of irony. And accordingto my statement, I defined irony in rhetoric, living, and aesthetical levels. The second chapterstates the irony tact has obvious reflection both on Graceful Words that is based on ZhouBangyan, LiuYong, YanShu, QinGuan and on Bold Words which mainly contains SuShi,OuYangxiu, and Wang Anshi in Northern Song. It shows that irony has different manifestationon these two kinds of words, Graceful Words used irony to criticize the cruel reality, theattacking objects was obscure, and the intensity of ironic emotion was gentle, but the BoldWords mainly appointed to the politic events like be expelled, degraded by emperor. And theirony emotion is more intensive. In general, the ironic strength went powerful with the politicconflict sharpening.The third chapter analyzes that the irony tact also has obvious reflection both on GracefulWords that is based on LiQingzhao, WuWenying, JiangKui, QinGuan and on Bold Wordswhich mainly contains LuYou, XinQiji, and Liu Kezhuang in Southern Song. And thisreflected the ironic emotion shows a tendency which is from intensive to gentle with thesharpening intrusion of minority and other conflicts in Late Song Dynasty. At last, the ironicemotion changed to yearning for the Song Dynasty. At this period of time, the difference of Irony still remains between two kinds of SongCi, it shows that most writers of Graceful Wordcan not enter the imperial court, although they claimed passionately, their ironic emotion isstill weaker than the Bold Word who bore the whole country’s restoring mission. The fourthchapter discussed the17th English poet and their poetry who stayed in the similar erabackground with Song Dynasty on economy, political, culture also massively applied irony totheir works. Compared to17th English poetry, we can conclude SongCi’s unique aestheticfeatures and the differences showing on writer’s self ironic emotion, ironic classification’suses, and religion thoughts. And we can say applying irony to SongCi not only enrich writer’semotion, but also strengthen their literary works in aesthetic aspects.
