"Shi" represents culture to some extent. China has thousands years of splendid food culture. With the continuous development of social civilization and progress, the meaning of "Shi" is changing. The changes of people’s perspectives of the world and life are also presented in the changing meaning of "Shi". In teaching Chinese as a foreign language, not only vocabulary related to food needs to be taught, the relevant cultural phenomena needs to be spread. Eight registers of "Shi" will be covered in this thesis, and Chinese earing tradition, religious eating taboos and traditional obedience to parents in food culture will be elaborated. With the aim of teaching food vocabulary and spreading food culture, on the basis of comparing Thai food culture and Chinese food culture, analyzing food culture teaching in Thailand, teaching materials were designed. It further proved the feasibility of the semantic field theory in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
