Due to the rich experiences of dwelling abroad, the understanding of Homelandof Malaysian-Chinese writers in Taiwan (MCA for short) is different from that of themainland Chinese writers. Li Yongping, as an outstanding representative of MCA, haswritten various novels as the animated textbooks to explain the sense Homeland,which varies gradually for these writers’ unique experiences. The author broadens thesense of Homeland slightly according to the previous study about Homeland in hismasterpieces. Therefore, this thesis has elaborated the concept of Homeland fromthree dimensions: the cultural matrix of the original township (China), the literarymother homeland (Taiwan), and the mother’s life as a homeland (Borneo). Based onthe corpus of Li Yongping’s novels about " Homeland ", the author aims to figuringout the his motivation of creation, the approaches that he adopts to express hisunderstanding of “Homeland”, and literary purport.This thesis is composed of four chapters. The chapter one mainly describes theexperiences of dwelling abroad of MCA by means of revealing the historical andcultural background from two perspectives---the changes of the sense of Homelandbetween generations and the dual marginal situations of the MCA; additionally, thethird quarter briefly introduces the unique literary features of theses masterpieces. Thesecond chapter further explains the Li yongping’s creation about “Homeland” fromthe perspectives of "Ji Ling illusion" and Li Yongping inner quest, the writing aboutHomeland of MCA and Li Yongping’s reflection of the modern urban, Borneo writingand Li Yongping’s seeking of original life. The third part is to solve the problems ofhow to accurately define "Homeland" from the point of multi-dimensional Homelandand self-identity, edge and hesitation. The fourth part focuses on the discussion onrelationships between the emotional entanglements of “homeland” and the inherenttension in fictions, that is the result of emotional entanglements of Homeland and theunique novel features. This thesis answers the questions by revealing the purposes offlowing location, roaming and the Homeland returning of literature.
