With the development of society, people are paying more and more attention to theirpsychological health, and psychological translation is thus becoming increasingly important, as itcan provide relevant guidance.What is discussed in this report is the translation of Chapter8: Intimacy and Distance inRelationship in LOOKING IN/LOOKING OUT, a popular book of interpersonal communication.This project meets the requirement of translation project for MTI graduation. There are17,000English words in the chapter, which are translated by the author independently. The report willfocus on the following questions: how to ensure quality and speed through pre-translationalpreparation and analysis, how to sum up experience and problems by analyzing specificexamples to provide experience and suggestions for the future translation work.In the process of translation, the author carried out the task by analyzing languagedifferences between English and Chinese, paying special attention to the details neglected bymost translators such as the voice and punctuation. Besides, the author adopted such methods asomission, substitution, supplementation and reversion. To ensure faithfulness and elegance, thetranslation has been revised and modified many times after its completion.Interpersonal psychology belongs to social science, involving various professional conceptsand knowledge in different fields. Besides the proficiency in the two languages, translatorsshould have the cultivation for social science as well. Therefore, translators should make enoughpreparations before and during the whole process of translation. Before the translation, he/sheshould analyze the text and be meticulous during the translation. Finally, he/she should providesummary and revision.It is hoped that the report will have some value for the translation of documents of similartypes and arouse people’s interest in interpersonal psychology.
