This report is an analysis of British writer Oliver Goldsmith’s novel the Vicar ofWakefield’s extract (chapter1-10) and its translation process. For literary worktranslating, it is necessary for translator not only to convey the semantic messagesaccurately, but also to represent the artistic conception of the literary work so that thesame aesthetic feeling of the target readers can be shared with that of the source textreaders. Under the guidance of "faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance", this thesisproceeds with the case study on the aspects of semantics,syntax and culture. It can beseen that "faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance" play a vital role in literarytranslation during the process of translation and analysis, so the translation version isidiomatic and fluent. Meanwhile, this report summarizes the lessons and reflectionsthe author got from this translation process. It will play a promoting role for futuretranslation.
