English listening comprehension teaching is an important link in English teaching.Many vocational students’ English listening comprehension ability is still poor. They lackof confidence about English listening comprehension, and they also have a sense of fearabout it. Besides, students are tired of the traditional boring English listeningcomprehension teaching mode, so to find a new method to improve students’ learningefficiency is an urgent problem to be solved. English songs are good language resourceswhich are easy for students to obtain in their spare time. English songs can stimulatestudents’ enthusiasm to study English, enhance the appeal of language culture, andstrengthen students’ language perception ability. Therefore, English songs can helpstudents strengthen their English listening comprehension ability.The main theoretical basis of this study is Krashen’s input hypothesis theory and theaffective filter hypothesis theory. The supporting theoretical foundation is constructivismtheory and multiple intelligence theory. Teachers should create a relaxing classroomatmosphere for students in the teaching procedure, and stimulate the learners’ positiveemotions and attitudes. Inserting the related-theme English songs in English listeningcomprehension teaching procedure can create a relaxing learning environment andstrengthen students’ English listening comprehension effect. The objective of this study isto explore the teaching method of applying English songs in English listeningcomprehension teaching in vocational college, highlight the auxiliary function of Englishsongs in English listening comprehension teaching, and strive to make a positivecontribution for the construction of English listening comprehension teaching materials.The author chose the freshmen of two non-English major classes in the author’scollege and conducted teaching experiment in the two classes about English songs’auxiliary function on English listening comprehension teaching. This thesis is based on theinvestigation and analysis about the teaching effect of the experimental classes concerningEnglish songs’ application in English listening comprehension teaching. This thesis strivesto explore the auxiliary function of English songs applied in English listening comprehension teaching, and formulate the design principles of English songs’ selection,placement, and relevant questions and discussions. This thesis presents specificimplementation strategies and teaching case, and the practical effect of English songs’application in English listening comprehension teaching has been demonstrated throughclassroom observation,listening comprehension tests, questionnaire surveys, and so on.From a theoretical point of view, this thesis is a reflection on Krashen’s inputhypothesis theory and affective filter hypothesis theory. In practice, it is also an innovativeattempt to enrich the content of English listening comprehension teaching materials. Thespecific issues studied in this thesis are operable. The research results have certainpractical value, which can provide references for furthering the reform of Englishclassroom teaching in vocational college and strengthening the construction of Englishlistening comprehension teaching materials.
