The protection and display capabilities of cultural relics have always beenregarded as a significant measurement of a nation’s development degree in culturalrelics, while the current display is mainly focused on tangible cultural relics withdeficient display methods and forms. With the swift and violent progress ininformation technology, the traditional way of cultural relics display can no longermeet the viewers’ needs and moreover, the insufficient display of value goes againstthe inheritance and preservation of those precious cultural relics.Virtual cultural relics display is a non-traditional exhibition method that freesfrom spotlights, descriptions, pictures and display windows, combining the virtualdisplay space with the entity display space through computer technologies andnetworks. The virtual display perfectly combines both the original value and thederived value of the cultural relics by achieving its functions in exhibition, study andmessage sending, which also improves the interactive experience between theexhibits and the viewers. Meanwhile, it conforms to the latest trend in digital age, where diversification, intellectualization and digitization are the inexorabledevelopment direction in cultural relics display. As far as virtual cultural relics display is concerned, the digital technology aloneis not capable enough. Whether in static state or dynamic state, the virtual culturalrelics display does not change the traditional way of information spreading by failingto get the feedback from the viewers. The development of interaction technology indisplay, however, can solve this problem by actively involving the viewers into theexhibition and transforming them from ‘viewers’ to ‘participants’ during theinteractive experience.Based on the latest progress made in interaction technology, this thesis isdevoted to conduct a theoretical and methodological study on interaction design invirtual cultural display. Firstly, it covers a brief introduction of the basic concepts invirtual cultural relics display and interaction technology, showing a clear picture ofthe research status at home and abroad. Secondly, an analysis based on cases isconducted to reveal the relation between the subject and object in interaction display. Finally, an argument is given to show the significance and the concrete practice ofinteraction design in virtual cultural relics display, so as to provide a more systematicapproach in further studies.
