During the Ming Dynasty, Beibu Gulf region near Annam, is the hub of maritimetraffic between the Ming Dynasty and Annam, as well as the maritime gateway toSouthwest China, its strategic position is very important. In particular, the late MingDynasty, the threat of the southeast coast gradually from Japanese pirates intoVietnam, the strategic position of the Beibu Gulf region coastal defense system hasbecome more important.In order to the mid-term of Jiajing period as the demarcation point, before theconstruction and development of the Beibu Gulf region coastal defense system can bebasically divided into the two periods: the Beibu Gulf region coastal defense systemof the early Ming Dynasty based on wei-suo system, but had to decline before midJiajing; during the late Ming Dynasty, the rulers adjusted and rebuilded the northernGulf coast defense system, gradually established since the Baige Zhai and WeizhouYouji as the main part.The Beibu Gulf region coastal defense system of the Ming Dynasty, both hit thepirates from the mid and east Guangdong Province in the Beibu Gulf region, avoiddisturbing social order, but also to curb the invasion of the coastal by Annam, playedan important role in the Guangdong coastal defense system and the Southwest borderdefense system of Ming Dynasty, also has a profound impact on history.
