Chinese traditional opera and western oil painting both belong to the categoryof art. During a hundred years since western oil painting spread into China, theelements of Chinese folk traditional opera have been gradually applied in the oilpainting. The two different artistic forms mixed together and contributed to the formof expression with Chinese style. Thus it can be seen that the art of Chinesetraditional opera and western oil painting are inextricably linked with a commonaesthetic taste.As one of the most primitive art forms in China, Chinese opera art hasa history of more than1000years, which are considered highly influential in everyaspect of Chinese society, culture and lifestyle. On the other hand, oil painting is anew form of art painting, if it wants to gain its footing and develop itself in China, itshould be able to absorb and digest the nutrient from Chinese traditional culture andart, so that its artistic aesthetics and value could also be embodied.The opera art isone of the most representative art forms among the numerous folk art forms. Notonly it can provide abundant inspiration and forms for oil painting, but also itsartistic features and spirituality play a very important role in the development ofChinese modern and contemporary oil painting. In the process of nationalization ofChinese oil painting in the last100years’ development, many artists creatednumerous oil painting art works with the theme of Chinese folk traditional operaelements, which proved the inestimable artistic value of opera theme oil painting inChinese contemporary painting art.This thesis starts with a reviewing of the origin and development of Chinesetraditional opera art and oil painting art. Then explore this topic primarily byChinese traditional opera art’s artistic features, spirituality, aesthetic features andmodeling element embodied in painting, separately understands the facial makeupart with beauty modality, unique national color system, splendid apparel modeling,various stage sets and Chinese traditional aesthetic thinking which are represented inpainting as the elements of Chinese traditional opera. And on this basis, this thesisstudies the Chinese traditional opera theme’s style and expression forms in Chinesecontemporary oil painting.The developing and integrating of Chinese traditional opera art and contemporary oil painting is of great significance to the exploration ofChinese traditional charm and the development of Chinese national oil painting, sothis subject is worth of our in-depth research.
