An Analysis Of The Barriers To Listeningin Interpretation And The Coping Strategies

This thesisstudies the barriers to listening comprehension in four practicalcases in which the author worked as an interpreter.The first case isinterpreting thetraining courses of54th Research Institute of the China ElectronicsTechnologyGroup Corporation (CETC54)on electronic equipment, weapons and armed vehicles.The second case is interpreting for Jason Ferguson, President of the WorldProfessional Billiards&Snooker Association (WPBSA). In thethird case, theauthorworks as an interpreter for Carla Mathisin her lecture on "The Psychology ofStyle Masterclass".The fourth case is interpreting for John and Doris Naisbitt, theworld-renowned futurists and authors of the book The Global Game Change on thepress conference of the book on2015Beijing Book Fair (BBF).Theories concerning the cognitivelinguistics serve as the foundation for thestudy. Listening barriers are categorized as linguistic ones and non-linguistic ones.Coping strategies are finally proposed to tackle the problems.
