The report is based on the reporter's whispered interpreting experience at the Interview with the COO of AAG Energy Company in August,2014.When interpreting AAG energy company's background, businesses and operation, the reporter was confronted with barriers of two categories, namely, linguistic barriers and non-linguistic barriers. The linguistic barriers mainly involve the interpretation of long complex sentences with relative clauses,of long sentences without proper connectives, and difficulties with vocabulary. The non-linguistic barriers mainly refer to those resulting from failure in concentration, owing to the loss of information or poor mental condition.Based on previous studies and particularly the reporter' own reflections, the reporter proposed the following solutions. There are three solutions to the linguistic problems.First, the interpreter should learn to analyze the internal logical relations of long and complex sentences by tracing the clues provided by antecedents and relative pronouns;second, the interpreter should add proper connectives according to notes and the original text, and last but not least, the interpreter should enlarge his or her vocabulary, paying special attention to polysemy, and prepare for terminologies in advance. To deal with two non-linguistic barriers, the reporter suggested that the interpreters draw on tailor Gile's Simultaneous interpretation mode to allocate attention, and find their own way of balancing between listening,note-taking,organizing and analyzing, and that interpreters improve their mental condition by increasing experience and practicing public speaking so as to deal with the interpreting tasks with high intensity and pressure.Through analyzing these barriers the reporter, offered advice to interpreters as well as MTI students as well.
