For half a century, because of the different historical and cultural situation, the landlord’s images in the Chinese contemporary fictions appear very various. The writers of "Seventeen years" period mostly handle this image from the perspective of class scale, which makes the landlord image of this period more typical. The writers since the new period pay more attention to the abundant personality traits from the perspective of human nature, and keep developing the complicated human nature. The huge differences between the images of "Seventeen years" and the landlord’s in the novel in the new period lie in numerous reasons, such as different context ages, author and reader’s dynamic views on history, culture, literature and aesthetic, and the influence of changing literature, culture trends. To the contemporary literature, it is very profound that the landlord’s image of the "seventeen years" period, the typical image, has gradually transferred to the more humanized image in the new period. This not only shows that the regression of literature and culture in a sense, but also shows that further liberation of literary thought and the more diversified aesthetic. The thesis mainly studies the images of landlord. Based on analysis of the landlord images in the liberated area literature in 40 s and 50 s, "seventeen years" fiction and novels in the new period, this thesis concentrate on the discussion of the two literature period, "seventeen years" and the new period, in order to study the changing of landlord images in the contemporary Chinese literature and the different comprehension from different writers about the landlord image and historical events in various context. The first chapter mainly analyzes the formation of landlord image in "17 years" novels, and discusses the main characteristics of the landlord in the context of class struggle period. In the mainstream literature at that time, the description of the landlord has left a lot of typical "bully" landlord’s image to literary history, but after reading the texts in detail, even in the atmosphere where the class struggle is very active, some writers can still clearly recognize their own responsibility. Their landlord images are not as devil as that of most writers, instead, they presents some complex human character. What’s more, the chapter at the same time explores the background and reasons of different presentation of "seventeen years" landlord image in the novel. The second chapter mainly studies the landlord’s images in pioneer novels of the new period and in the new historical novels, and attempt to found out the new characteristics of the landlord of the novel in this period, such as diligence and kindness, generosity, which are unlikely to happen to the landlords in the "seventeen years" literature. The warm and beautiful side of human nature will be displayed on the landlords. Their personalities are more and more abundant, and the images become fuller and fuller. And furthermore, the second chapter attempt to figure out the reason why the images of landlord have been rebuilt from the aspects, such as the era change, the influence of western culture and effect of Chinese new literature and cultural views. The third chapter mainly explains and analyzes landlord from the aspect of history, aesthetic, and contrast the works of "seventeen years" with novels in the new period about the use of language, narrative perspective and narrative strategy, in order to explain how the change of narrative methods affect the formation of landlord image.
