Pragmatic mitigation is a kind of language phenomenon, mainly for the speaker to reduce speech driven, imposed by modification of speech acts, or as much as possible to reduce the negative effects brought about by the two sides of the communication of interpersonal relationship. In the process of people communicate with each other the speaker’s use of pragmatic mitigation can reduce a discourse or events caused by the confrontation or negative effects, reduce face threat, conflict, communication risks may occur. Verschueren’s context adaptation theory, Brown and Levinson’s face theory and Grice’s cooperative principle, and so on can theoretically the application of pragmatic mitigation fuzzy strategy to make a reasonable interpretation. In verbal communication the speaker can use approximators and shields, fuzzy pattern of elliptical sentences, passive sentences, question sentences, implicit negative sentences and metaphor, metonymy, pun, irony, euphemism rhetoric means of expression of fuzzy language to mitigating the communicative effect. In Chinese conservation speakers use pragmatic mitigation fuzzy strategy, by adapting various contextual factors and related social statute, using the theory of face of the principle of positive face and negative face, and to abide by and in violation of the cooperative principle, to adjust atmosphere, alleviate contradictions, appealed to persuade interpersonal, guide the response received, and the pragmatic value of empathy.
