This thesis discusses the political situation of the Late Southern Dynasty by the clue of the rise and decline of Wang Lin, who grew rapidly to become a military leader by the refugee army from Jianghuai Valley. The main content of Chapter One is to explore the early life of Wang Lin’ s father by review the origin of related historical sources, thus it can complement the inadequate facts we knew about Wang Lin’s background. The Chapter Two, would expound the gradually rise of Wang Lin during the rebellion of Hou Jing, and the formation of Wang Lin-Chen Baxian confrontation after the death of Liang Yuan Di. As the main part of the thesis, Chapter Three would focuses on the internal strcture of Wang Lin’s militant group, and points out his militant group is mainly consists of the refugee army from Jianghuai Valley, and the regional forces of Xiang Zhou, the area that Wang Lin has run several years. However, the Jianghuai refugee army is always the core troop of Wang Lin, and therefore, Wang Lin finally went over to the Northern Qi Dynasty which dominated the Jianghuai Valley. Chapter Four discusses how the offensive of Wang Lin impact on the political situation of Chen Dynasty and why he lost the decisive war which outcome would determine the final status of the Southern Dynasty, and died in Shou Yang city which located in Jianghuai Valley. As the last refugee army leader in the period of East Jin Southern Dynasty, the death of Wang Lin symbolized the ending of the historical stage which dominated by the refugee power, hence, the evolution of East refugee army from Jianghuai Valley may serve as important clue to the course of history in the East Jin Southern Dynasty.
