| Johan Gunnar Andersson (1874-1960), a famous Swedish geologist, who had worked at Department of Agriculture & Mining Administration for Northern Warlords Government of China from 1914, mainly professional at coal & iron minerals resources search for the government. Finally, his works had a series of changes because of some political and personal reasons, from the first minerals resources search to fossil & bones Specimens collections, and lastly directed to Chinese Neolithic age’s archaeology research and study. The article will focus Anderson’s series archaeology activities and his outstanding contribution in the development of Chinese archaeology history. We will extend our descriptions and study from two aspects:Firstly, we will focus his most matters archaeology activities in China, according to the chronological order, which mainly include 4 archaeology activities and research, such as his far-reaching discovery of Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian, his excavation and studies of Shaguo Village cave site in Chinhsi, Liaoning Province, his series geological research exercises in Henan Province like workshops, field studies etc. and his geological research and collection activities in Gansu and Qinghai provinces. Secondly, we will focus Anderson’s pioneer-reaching postion in Chinese prehistoric archaeology development, he is the first one who discovered and named first prehistorical cultural civilization-Yangshao Culture, which not only broke the western scholars’idea of "Zero-Stone Age in China ", but also pioneerred the great development of Chinese Prehistoric Archaeology research, which have great and far-reaching influence & contribution for China’s formal field archaeological excavation, and also founded his special importance in academic circles. Meanwhile, we also try to explain and study Anderson’s excavation materials and study papers about the development of Chinese Neolithic age’s archaeology. |
