Cultural Paradox And Humanity Dilemma

As one of the representative figure of the fifth generation directors, Kaige Chen’s films have always been much public concerned. From the "yellow earth" which amazing the world to the peakedness opus "Farewell to My Concubine", and the continuation of the cultural film "Mei Lanfang" etc. The creation of the road show that Kaige Chen as an intellectual elite deep concern for national culture and deepmining. The film works mostly in the background of history, the story back to the historical scene, the director tried to excavate the cultural historical accumulation in fractures covered and hidden contradictions and conflicts, so as to reflect the historical, cultural reflection.In this paper, "Farewell to My Concubine" etc. five films as the main research object,from two themes into culture and human nature, deeply discuss the theme connotation and image expression of Kaige Chen’s films, and make a tentative study about Kaige Chen’s cultural character. Cultural paradox and human predicament text through four part demonstrates Kaige Chen’s films contained. The first chapter study Kaige Chen’s personal and cultural circumstances, expression of Kaige Chen as a "cultural workers" team in history,culture, human thinking and exploration. The second chapter points out that cultural paradox have three aspects inherent in the works of Kaige Chen movies from the angle of culture. The third chapter based on the cultural paradox from the angle of human naiture that exists in the cultural world of people face in the face of the difficult plight of the two cultural paradox, the expression of the director’s deep thinking on human nature and its deep concern for the people.The fourth chapter analyzes the narrative structure of the film through the image language of movie, Kaige Chen through the image language very subjective, show the narrative tension inthe symbolic system of wonder and mystery of, the formation of image language personalized style characteristics.
