Analysis Of The Theater Interpretation In The German Translation Of Mo Yan’s Novel Sandalwood Death

As one of the most famous and successful writers of China has Mo Yan always the extensive attention from all over the world, especially after he received The Nobel Prize in Literary. As he has 6 novels which have been translated into German, refer to this number, we can say that he is a very popular writer in Germany.But the research range of his work was limited in the field of literary and there is fast no topics about the translation of Mo Yan’s works, especially in the field of theater translation, which is the key point of the interpretation of "Sandalwood Death", because Mo Yan has emphasize the local opera Mao Qiang in the novel to show his individual literature character and his sense of root-seeking literature. With the structure of traditional Chinese Drama, conventional folk tales and folklore resources and the references of dramatic chants, lyrics and verse of Mao Qiang is the novel just like a track of Mao Qiang, smooth and charm, full of rhythm.On the basis of the translation theory "the performability" of british translator Susan Bassnett, this essay studies on the development of the performability theory and the orality, speakability, breathability and rhyme as the translating critorian, to take the Germany translated novel "Die Sandelholzstrafe" of Mo Yan as the example and analyze the dramatic translation in this novel. According to the language rules of traditional Chinese opera, this essay classifies the dramatic translation in the novel into drei categories, "colloquialism", "Poems" and "canto", and separately takes some translating examples for analysis and estimation.After the analysis we can make the conclusion that in order to retain the original meaning and style of the novel the translator of the work Miss Karin Betz has persisted the performability of the dramatic translation. Translator use the cultural domestication strategy and pay attention to the statements and words to satisfiy the critorien of orality, speakability, breathability and rhyme to keep the dialogs and descriptions more dynamic and performable.
