The Eastern Jin Dynasty is the period of aristocratic politics. Scholar’ s life state and scholar’s thought is closely related to his identity. The academic atmosphere and general mood of society are impacted by the political background. So the study on Eastern Jin Dynasty scholars from the perspective of Shi and Shu relationship is very necessary. The research on Tao Yuanming’s thought is a hot topic in the study of Ancient Chinese Literature, but the study on Tao Yuanming’s thought in the perspective of Shi and Shu relationship is less. Tao Yuanming is a unique and prominent poet in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, so in the perspective of Shi and Shu relationship is of great significance to study Tao Yuanming’s thought.In this paper, the first chapter introduces the background of aristocratic politics, to clarify the boundaries between the nobility, second-class nobles and commoners in the Eastern Jin dynasty. The second chapter is one of the key chapters. The second chapter focuses on the issue of Tao yuanming’s identity from Tao Yuanming’s family, home, their social status and Tao yuanming’s self-recognition these four aspects. In the third chapter and the fourth chapter investigated Tao Yuanming’s aristocratic consciousness and Tao Yuanming’s commoner consciousness. There are aristocratic consciousness in Tao Yuanming’s thoughts,such as family concept and aesthetic taste. There are also commoner consciousness in Tao Yuanming’s thoughts, such as his sigh of poor state,his sorrow of not be appreciated and the spirit of self-esteem. Tao Yuanming’s aristocratic consciousness has commoner thought element. At the same time, Tao Yuanming’s commoner consciousness has the characteristics of elegance and metaphysics. Tao Yuanming’s noble consciousness and commoner consciousness are intertwined. Tao Yuanming’s thought is often a paradoxical mix of noble consciousness and commoner consciousness.
