Interpreting Practice Report On The Lecture Are You Biased

Compared with translation, interpreting has the characteristics of low predictability and colloquial, which requires the interpreter to have high English and Chinese proficiency. And an interpreter needs a lot of practice to master interpreting skills.This report is based on the writer’s own interpreting practice and extracts some examples from the recording of Professor Thomas’s lecture Are you Biased. The examples chosen will be analyzed based on the Theory of Context proposed by John Rupert Firth, namely Linguistic Context and Situational Context so as to find out application of generalization, specification, omission and reformulation.This paper is made up of five chapters. The first chapter briefs on this interpreting practice; the second chapter tells about the characteristics of practice; the third chapter describes the whole process of this interpreting experience; the fourth chapter introduces the Theory of Context and analyzes the examples chosen; the last chapter offers the suggestions to interpreting learners and practitioners.
