Note-taking has been playing a very important role in the consecutive interpreting training. It can not only help interpreters relieve the pressure of memory, but also reduce energy consumption during the limited process of energy coordination and distribution so as to improve the interpreting quality. However, to the problem of interpreters taking notes by using source language or target language in consecutive interpreting, most of the researches are prone to personal subjective speculation and lack empirical research. This thesis is based on Daniel Gile’s Effort Model Theory and takes 30 interpretation of Chinese MTI (Master of Translating and Interpreting) students as experimenters, with the method of this experiment is empirical research to discuss which kind of language choice that interpreters can use in note taking when doing English-Chinese consecutive interpreting. The experiment result shows that most of experimenters are more likely to use source language as Note taking language, which means they pay more attention to the process of listening. This phenomenon is determined by both bilingual interpretation ability of the interpreters and free combination status produced by interpreters applying the notes of the language.
