This practice study report is based on the translation practice of the text Diary of a Wimpy Kid, written by American writer Jeff Kinney under the guidance of Reception Theory. The two principles of Reception Theory, status of the reader and horizon of expectation, have been applied into the translation process. The report has analyzed some typical examples, which aims to provide reference for the study of children’s literature translation.Children’s literature plays a vital role in the growth and development of the children. A large number of outstanding foreign children’s literature works have been brought in since 1978,while the translation quality of these works is not satisfying.Besides, little attention has been paid to the translation of children’s literature comparing to that of adult literature. It is a pity that there are few researches on children’s literature translation.Reception Theory provides a new angle for the study of translation, which shifts the focus from the text-oriented study to the reader-oriented study. During the translation, the receptivity and horizon of expectation of the reader should be taken into consideration. The translated text should meet the horizon of expectation of the reader.The target readers of children’s literature are children who are different from adult readers in age, mentality, experience, reading competence and range of knowledge. As a result,children’s characteristics should be paid great attention to,which ensures that the translated text can be accepted and appreciated by the children.This practice study report is guided by Reception Theory. Considering children’s characteristics and receptivity, the practice study focuses on the analysis of the examples on lexical, syntactic and rhetorical levels. In conclusion, the translated text which presents the children’s characteristics and meets their horizon of expectation can be accepted by the children. In other words,the translated text should adopt clear and oral words, simple sentences and vivid figuresofspeechtoreproducetheoriginal text.
