Paul Gauguin as a post-Impressionist art representative, his art language has a clear abstract tendency.In a traditional point of view, the reason of abstract is people explore the regularity,through the rational intervention and create their own to form.However,Seen from the analysis of Gauguin’s art and life experiences,he tendency to feel intuitively.Based on Paul Gauguin’s research, analysis variation art language forms,and combined with their letters, books and other text information.Analyze the causal relationship between the intuitive tendency and the tendency of his works of abstract,argue the cause of this relationship is "abstract impulse".The thesis is divided into four parts.The first chapter through the use of an interdisciplinary research method to explain esthetician Lipps and Worringer on "empathy impulse" and "abstract impulse" point of view,the characteristics of each art form and the relationship between the two.The second chapter through the use of literature research and case study of Gauguin letters and writings and other text information were analyzed,description Gauguin art language change is caused by the external space of anxiety and fear caused by the "abstract impulse".The third chapter describes Gauguin’s art language by image analysis.analyzed the three main features of "abstract impulse":flattened space, geometric modeling inorganic and graphics closure,show the relationship between "abstract impulse" and variations of feature.attempt to prove "abstract impulse" influenced the formation of Gauguin art language.The fourth chapter,through the use of literature research and image analysis researched Kandinsky "internal demand" theory and the characteristics of Max Beckmann art,explain the influence of Gauguin art’s "abstract impulse" on subsequent artists.
