A Study On The Comedy Characteristics Of Dengxi In Northern Sichuan Province

Dengxi in Northern Sichuan Province (short for DINSP in this paper), which means plays performed under the light literally, has been born and raised Chinese traditional folk opera. It possesses strong comedy characteristics that are extremely amusing, hilarious and impressive, and it has already become the integrated embodiment of the local culture and civilization in the northern Sichuan province. In 2006, it was listed in the first batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. DINSP has been regarded as a representative of folk opera. A growing number of people have been attracted.DINSP’history, texts, theatre and relevant theories of Bakhtin’s ideas of folk culture are the foundations of this paper as to studying DINSP’s comedy characteristics, understanding and deconstructing the features of northern Sichuan’s culture. Thus, it could bring more new thoughts for inheriting and developing DINSP, and fresher views of Chinese traditional opera history by learning folk operas.
